Please Note: MedSTEM Explorers and MedSTEM Pathways will be held virtually this summer. If you have any questions about this change, please contact us at [email protected].

Exploring Pathways and Preparing for the Future

Our high school programs work to expose students to the variety of opportunities within STEM and healthcare through classroom education, technical certifications, and interships. Our programs teach foundational skills for entering the workforce and help students make logical and financially healthy choices for better college plans and readiness.

Making a Difference

These opportunities are available for students who live and attend schools in the West Side communities we serve, with the goal of providing education outreach and opportunities to underserved and under-resourced communities. High quality STEM and healthcare curriculum partnered with hands-on learning and dedicated STEM mentors is necessary to inspire students between the age of 14 - 18 and prepare them for future school and career challenges.

MedSTEM Program

The MedSTEM Program is an intensive academic enrichment program designed to introduce teens to a variety of STEM and healthcare careers, strengthen academic preparation, and develop leadership skills. Students will engage in hands-on learning to strengthen communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. In addition to developing skills for higher education and career, students will have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized credentials.

MedSTEM Explorers

MedSTEM Explorers is a paid enrichment program for rising high school sophomores and juniors. There is one, 6-week summer session in which students attend classes at Rush University Medical Center exploring various STEM and healthcare careers, developing workforce skills, and researching real-world issues that affect their Chicago communities.

MedSTEM Pathways

MedSTEM Pathways is a paid internship program for rising high school juniors through recent high school graduates. There are three sessions: Summer, Fall, and Spring. Students will spend up to 12 hours per week gaining work-based learning skills while interning in departments throughout Rush University Medical Center and several other partner organizations. During the summer session, students also spend one day per week strengthening college readiness and life skills through academic and professional development classes.
